Behind the Design: Atelier Victoria’s Secret—The Designer Collection That’s Literally Dripping in Crystals
Have you ever seen those unreal gowns on the red carpet—you know, the ones covered in glittery, glitzy gems and detailing—and thought to yourself, “that’s what I would wear if I were a celebrity.”?
Well, your time has come (no fame required).
Introducing Atelier Victoria’s Secret: Our new designer collection that’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen from VS. We sat down with Alice Marvier, AVP of Design and the mastermind behind the extravagant collection, to talk inspiration, execution, and all the nitty gritty (gleaming) details.
What is the inspiration behind Atelier Victoria’s Secret?
“As we were thinking about the collection, the main target was to stand out, and that’s how the idea to treat these pieces as if they were jewelry came about. A feminine, refined, elevated, ethereal, and dreamy-inspired silhouette was the ultimate muse behind this collection.”
Let’s go behind the design—what was used to make these art-like pieces?
“The main materials are coco white tulle, mesh, and clear/silver crystal cupchains. Each garment is crafted from engineered cupchain mountings creating dazzling swags—hundreds and hundreds of crystals.”
To put this into perspective, our Wicked style is adorned with over 3200 crystals. To call these pieces “special” is an understatement.
How about construction—can you take us through that process?
“To get the perfect proportions, everything was initially mocked up by our design team. We then worked hand in hand with the glamour technical design, product development, and raw material teams to achieve the perfect recipe.”
How long did it take to bring this collection to life?
“Our calendar is quite tight so Miki Watanabe, our talented Victoria’s Secret Dream design director, only had a few days to work her magic! It was a true labor of love.”
Any final thoughts you’d like to share?
“We’re beyond excited to see it come to life and share this collection with the world!”
